A 'zero-heat' house combining passive solar gain, high thermal mass and super-insulation to eliminate the need for any space heating.  Substantial areas of glazing, facing due south achieve maximum thermal gain from the winter sun.   Independence from mains services is achieved by a photovoltaic array, solar thermal panels, rainwater harvesting, an on-site grey water treatment system and composting toilets

Despite many unusual design details, dictated by its exceptional environmental performance, the house maintains a traditional look to blend into its village setting
